On the second level you have a nice little batch of health bonuses and medkits next to a staircase with another Dollhead. You head toward a platform that drops as you approach holding two Zombiemen. This wad just oozes a mood that is hard to really describe but it very easy to understand.Īs mentioned above you get the shotgun right away and are lead through visual cues to investigate behind a shipping container where a Dollhead and Shotgunner await. The outdoor areas of the map are beautifully designed and give you the feeling that you're walking around a warehousing district where all the grimiest crime is done. When you get your shotgun you may notice the throbbing meat pile and the trail of blood leading to the backside of the shipping container right ahead of you, leading into a trap where a Dollhead (my name for the Chaingunner replacement) and a shotgunner wait in ambush. A massive light wall and the red key door draw your attention from the start of the map. Still, the map is very nicely put together with a nice attention to detail and construction. This map follows a much more traditional and straight forward design than the first does, this means the map has to lean less on it's visuals and the gameplay takes focus instead. It fits very nicely with this map's layout because of how you wind your way through both of the main buildings, you end up circling around several times and stepping very carefully and deliberately, as you would do with a tango. It's a nice driving piece that has all of the instruments line up with a nice solid pulse, giving you a feeling of pushing forward with confidence. A Tango piece called La Cumparsita from what I was able to gather. It's a tastefully done decision that communicates an item's importance without destroying the visual consistency.
I think it's a really smart idea that doesn't destroy the aesthetics of the wad. I saw another poster's review earlier in the thread mention that the item pickups flash to stand out from the background due to the color pallet but I hadn't actually noticed it before now. This is first time I had actually noticed that the weapons and ammo pickups flashed while they lay on the ground. I typically play from pistol starts so seeing a weapon right away usually means that there's no warming up phase and there will be some meaty fights. The first thing that jumps out to me, aside from the sweet tune, is the fact that you're given the shotgun from the very start.
